英國國立萊斯特大學商學院排名晉升為全英國          第二名

根據最新英國衛報(Guardian)公佈的2010英國大學排名，英國國立萊斯特大學在商科(Business and Management Studies)排名為全英國第二名，僅次於第一名的牛津大學(Oxford University)。

根據上海交通大學所作的一份評鑑報告，萊斯特大學與其他17所英國大學榮登全球五百大名校：名列全球第153名，全英國第16名。

World Class University
University of Leicester achieves world ranking.
The University of Leicester is one of only 17 UK universities to be ranked among the elite universities of the world in a survey of the world’s top 500 universities.
The study, carried out by China’s Shanghai Jiao Tong University, places Leicester joint 153rd in the world and joint 16th in the UK, amongst a select group of universities that includes Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial College, University College, London, and Edinburgh.
Factors taken into account were research and academic performance, specifically:
Articles in Science Citation Index-expanded and Social Science Citation Index Highly cited researchers in 21 subject categories Articles published in Nature and Science Academic performance with respect to size of institution.

Director of the University’s International Office Tony Pearson said: "University education is part of the global economy, with students choosing courses and universities from all those available, whichever part of the world they happen to be in. The list of the world's top 500 universities produced by the famous Shanghai Jiao Tong University concentrates on the criteria that matter most to international students and enables them to focus their search. The University of Leicester is proud that its world-class reputation has placed it so highly".

The University of Leicester is a research institution of international standing, whose research income places it among the top 20 UK research universities. Recently published Cambridge University data rates Leicester in the top 20 UK universities in terms of research income, which amounted to ￡49.5M from the Higher Education Funding Council (England), external and research grants and contracts during 2002-3.
It was at Leicester that DNA Fingerprinting was invented by Professor Sir Alec Jeffreys, in the Department of Genetics which is still the UK’s only Genetics department with the top 5* research rating, and where Sir Alec Jeffreys still works.

Equally famous is the University’s Space Research and its exploration of the far reaches of the universe using x-ray astronomy. Current space projects include NASA’s Swift missions and the Lobster telescope. The Lander Operations Control Centre for the Beagle 2 Mars probe was at Leicester.
The University is one of a small number of universities to have won the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher Education on more than one occasion. (Physics and Astronomy in 1994 and Genetics in 2002). These highly prestigious prizes are awarded for excellent developments and research in higher and further education.
Several other departments have internationally famous research teams, notably Archaeology, Biochemistry, Biology, Economics, English Literature, Engineering, History, Law, Mathematics and Pharmacology. The University of Leicester has an excellent teaching record across its six faculties; since March 1998, fourteen consecutive assessments by the Quality Assurance Agency have achieved scores of 'excellent' (ie a score of at least 22 out of 24). Only one other English university can match this result.

Leicester has 19,000 registered students, of whom 8,000 are full-time undergraduates, and it is the UK’s largest provider of distance learning education after the Open University. There are 1,500 full-time students from outside the European Union, 15% of the total full-time population.

新制PhD (New Route PhD)：

萊斯特大學於2002年5月加入英國23所大學一同推出新制PhD課程，申請者並不需要擁有碩士學位，新制PhD課程結合上課(taught course)與研究(research)，可以4年完成學位。此課程是為了因應以知識經濟掛帥的21世紀潮流。目前開設科系有：Mass Communications、 Engineering、 Geography、 Cellular and Molecular Pathology、Archaeology。
